OWLS CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT:

The design for The Herstory of OWLS: The First 30 Years (1986-2016) book cover is articulated within the clients Proof of Concept (POC) above as:

“The image of an owl forms a significant part of the identity for the Otago Women Lawyers’ Society. Without wanting to use this bird literally, shapes have been taken particularly the eye markings and wing anatomy (known as coverts) to create texture specific to owls/OWLS in an ornithological and organizational blend of colour and diversity.”

Working closely with society committee members, an appropriate design approach was considered that reflected the identity of the organization and the impending publication.

It was important to use the idea of an owl conceptually to stimulate a design resolution to celebrate the herstory of the publication and to promote the continued legacy of the professional practice of all OWLS members of the past, present and future.
