Design EXPERIENCE: Otago Polytechnic School Of Design x Architecture Van Brandenburg

Producer, lead creative and graphic installation content creator of Photosynthesis - a design experience, community exhibition, and collaboration with Architecture Van Brandenburg and Otago Polytechnic, School of Design held as part of the Vogel Street Party, Dunedin.

Multiple architectural models used in the creative ideation and construction of the Marisfrolg Fashion Group headquarters project in Shenzhen, China were used to project graphic textures that moved within an omnipresent soundscape made to interact with the surrounding exhibition environment which never looped or repeated so each audio/visual moment was unique and ever-changing in this innovative promotional event.

Taking the lead of the School of Design team to create projection mapped images that were projected through multiple projectors. These mapped images were combined in the space, creating liminal transitions that provided a visual metaphor for change and chance –  a sense of the unknown.

Ideas were explored surrounding the notion of the experience of the senses within the space that connected each sculpture and person in the environment rather than providing a dominant focal point. Specific creative attention was given to how projection mapped images can be combined and transmitted in their own context and ultimately how each can be linked to a networked system, vascular, and outwards within a design experience.

Thank you to Architecture Van Brandenburg, Southern Lighting and Vogel Street Party.

PROJECTION MAPPED TEXTURES:

Graphic textures were digitally cut from the architectural models using digital software then projected on large architectural models. Multiples interactions of surfaces and graphic textures animated the space and environment, providing dynamic combinations. The space and structures were transformative providing a design experience to the visitor.

COLLABORATIVE PHOTOSYNTHESIS MOSAIC WALL

A large interior wall was utilised allowing the public to engage with the graphic elements that make up sections of Architecture Van Brandenburg, Marisfrolg structure. Using multi use wall vinyl, visitors could reintegrate mosaics forms from PHOTOSYNTHESIS recontextualising the aesthetic of each mosaic fragment independently and collectively.
